About

One of Zimbabwe's most important cricket players, Raza, was born in Sialkot, Pakistan, on April 24, 1986. Sikandar Raza is renowned for his versatility and game-winning performances. His transformation from pilot to professional cricket player is a motivational story. He was relocated to Zimbabwe with his family in the early 2000s and played an important role in national cricket.

Early Life and Cricketing Journey

At first, Raza wanted to be a fighter pilot, but he failed the final medical exam and even registered at the Pakistan Air Force College. Raza had no intention of playing cricket professionally, but later after his family migrated to Zimbabwe he started playing domestic cricket and applied to software engineering.

His aggressive batting style and capacity to hold innings consistent under pressure were popular. National selectors chose him according to his performances in Zimbabwe's domestic competitions. In 2013, he made his debut for Zimbabwe on the international stage after fulfil Zimbabwe residency requirements.

International Career

On May 3, 2013, Raza faced Bangladesh in his first One-Day International. He became a key player in Zimbabwe's middle order very quickly and was renowned for his consistency and ability to build alliances. He proved he could play game-winning innings in 2014 when he hit his first ODI century against Afghanistan.

In September 2013, he made his Test debut against Pakistan. he has played for Zimbabwe in several important Test innings, Although he is most renowned for his limited-overs performances, his test performance is also spectacular notably a brilliant 127 against Sri Lanka in 2017.

Raza has been one of Zimbabwe's outstanding batsmen in Twenty20 International cricket. He has a great performance list in the shortest format because of his ability to play creative shots and accelerate the scoring rate.

All-Round Abilities

In addition to being a good batter Raza has also developed as an off-spin bowler. He is an essential player of Zimbabwe's bowling attack because of his versatility and ability to disrupt partnerships. In the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifiers, he showed his effectiveness with the ball by taking five wickets against the Netherlands.

T20 League Success

Raza has contracts with several T20 competitions worldwide, such as the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), Indian Premier League (IPL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Pakistan Super League (PSL) Due to his skill. He was one of the few Zimbabwean players to compete in the 2023 IPL, playing for Punjab Kings.
