Angelo Mathews-ambo was once as the future foundation of Sri Lankan cricket because of his balling and batting style, he always presented his exceptional athleticism on the field. After Mahela Jayawardene and the great Kumar Sangakkara retired, Mathews was supposed to take over. He began displaying his captaincy prowess in 2014 when he helped Sri Lanka win their first Test series in England. Mathews had a pivotal role in Sri Lanka's T20 World Cup victory. However, his injuries prevented him from becoming an all-round player, and he ultimately focused on becoming a pure batsman, somewhat sacrificing his bowling responsibilities to reduce workload.
Despite his injuries, Matthews played for Sri Lanka on the board, and his responses have been preserved for generations to come.
He has led in World Cups and played a key role in Sri Lanka's historic triumph over the hosts, England, in the 2019 tournament. Mathews sustained additional injuries and found it harder to maintain consistency on the field. Despite being dropped from the one-day international and Twenty20 international teams numerous times over the years, Mathews always manages to make a comeback, his invaluable expertise providing a little more peace of mind during these trying times. Despite not being at his best, Mathews made a comeback to the field, most likely for one of his final appearances, lending his expertise to Sri Lanka's diligent but faltering squad.
