Early career and rise to fame
Mayers began his cricket career at the youth level, playing for the West Indies U-19 team in the 2012 ICC U-19 Cricket World Cup. His domestic performances in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) and first-class cricket granted him recognition as a promising all-round player, but it was in 2021 that he really made headlines. He played one of the best innings in West Indies' Test series against Bangladesh. In 2021 a record fourth-innings chase against Bangladesh, he scored an undefeated 210, one of the greatest innings in West Indies cricket history, during his Test debut. He became known as a player with great potential and a strong temperament.
